Shahrukh Khan 1965 -
Shahrukh Khan has been the Indian film industry's favourite for over a decade. Despite competition in recent years from
relative newcomers such as Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan, as well as established stars such as Aamir Khan and Salman Khan
(no relations), Shahrukh still remains the number one Bollywood star today. He is not only a favourite with Indian audiences,
but he is also the most popular Bollywood star with Western audiences. Shahrukh made giant strides early in his career and today
he has achieved more in just one decade than others can manage in a lifetime. His CV is indeed the envy of all.
Shahrukh early years were characterised by his choice of various challenging roles that few other 'heroes' would even consider.
However, following the stupendous success of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), many of Shahrukh's films have him playing similar
'safe' romantic roles. This has not escaped the attention of film concessioners and he has received some criticism for this. But
Shahrukh's performance in Swades (2004) showed a return to the kind of performances that he delivered during his early years.
Some of Shahrukh's most memorable films include Darr (1993), where he played to perfection the role of a man obsessed with
another man's fiancee, and Dil Se.. (1998), where he falls madly in love with a female suicide bomber! In the late 1990s,
Shahrukh founded his own production company and his most notable home productions have been Asoka (2001) and Chalte Chalte (2003).
Acclaimed performance in Swades (2004) and Chak De India (2007) won another couple of Filmfare Awards and moved him closer to
Dilip Kumar's record haul. There's just no stopping the Khan!
