Rekha is India's ultimate fashion Icon. After a slow start to her career in the early 1970s, Rekha went on to become very popular in the latter part of the decade. The on-screen chemistry generated in the many films she made opposite Amitabh Bachchan, led many to suspect that there was a real life romance happening. In an unbeliveable casting coup by Yash Chopra, Rekha appeared alongside both Amitabh and his wife Jaya, in the love triangle that was Silsila (1981)!

Rekha 's finest moment undoubtedly came when she played the lead role as a courtesan in the film adaptation of the 19th century novel, Umrao Jaan. Her portrayal earned her wide-spread appreciation and fetched her the National Award as Best Actress. Since then, Rekha has made few good movies like Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and to date, she is still appearing in the occasional film. Recently she appeared in Bhoot (2003) and Koi... Mil Gaya (2003).
