With the release of Aradhana in 1969, Rajesh Khanna (and Kishore Kumar) achieved superstar status. Rajesh was Bollywood's most famous romantic hero, and is generally accepted as the best looking male star. He was the object of worship for millions of women and it's been claimed that when Rajesh got married in 1973, many distraught women actually committed suicide!

The ascent of Amitabh Bachchan in the mid-70s effectively ended Rajesh's time at the top. It was short but sweet. Although Rajesh continued to make films till well in the 1980s, his best days were well and truly behind him. Twinkle Khanna, Rajesh's daughter by actress Dimple Kapadia, is continuing the family tradition of films, but her parents have set a high standard for her to follow.
