Gulzar Gulzar 1936 -

Gulzar's fame doesn't rest solely on his lyrical output; he has also made a name for himself in film production and direction. Gulzar entered the industry in the capacity of assistant director to the legendary film-maker Bimal Roy. Gulzar wrote his first film song for Roy's Bandini (1962).

Later, he also worked as assistant to another legendary director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Gulzar's films as a director in his own right included the acclaimed Mere Apne, Koshish, Aandhi, Mausam and Maachis. But Gulzar is best known for his lyrical gems. Gulzar's writing has always been very different to that of his contemporaries, rich imagery and profound in thought.
