B.R. Chopra B.R. Chopra 1914 -

B.R. Chopra launched his own production company in the mid-50s. Ek Hi Raasta (1956) was the company's first film. Success after success followed with Naya Daur (1957), Sadhna (1958), Dhool Ka Phool (1959) - his brother Yash Chopra's directorial debut. Chopra started the 60s with a songless film, Kanoon (1961), which was very uncommon in Bollywood.

Gumrah (1963), Waqt (1965) and Hamraaz (1967) ensured the hits continued into the new decade. But by the 70s, success eluded him, but there was the odd exception such as Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978). Nikaah (1982), was Chopra's last major hit. His son Ravi tried to bring the good days back to the B.R. Banner, but the films directed by him have not done too well. Chopra's company produced the highly successful Mahabharat, based on the great Indian epic, which is one of the most popular Indian television series.
