Asha Bhosle Asha Bhosle 1932 -

A Brimful Of Asha, the number one single by UK band Cornershop is a tribute to Bollywood's Asha Bhosle. Asha, after her older sister Lata Mangeshkar, is India's greatest female singer. Although much of her early career was spent in the shadow of Lata, Asha was able to carve a niche for herself in Bollywood history. Asha is best known for her productive associations with O.P. Nayyar in 1950s and 60s, and with R.D. Burman, who she later married, in the 70s and 80s. Asha Bhosle is the current record holder of most Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and would have surely won more than her total of 7, had she not chosen to withdraw from the running in the late 70s. In 1997, Asha Bhosle became the first Indian vocalist to be nominated for a Grammy Award.
