A.R. Rahman is the biggest name in Indian music today. A graduate of the Trinity College of Music at Oxford University, Rahman first earned recognition as a composer for his jingles for a number of popular ads. He got his break in films when he met the famous South-Indian Film Director, Main Ratnam in the early 1990s. Ratnam signed Rahman to compose the music for his forthcoming film called Roja (1992). And Rahman created history by winning the National Award for his very first soundtrack!

Rangeela (1995), which featured Asha Bhosle's biggest hits of the decade, won Rahman won his first Best Music Director Filmfare Award. This was followed by further Awards for Dil Se... (1998), arguably Rahman's finest work to date, and Taal (1998). Lagaan (2001) won Rahman both the Filmare and National Award. Rahman's talent caught the attention of West End Producer Sir Anderew Lloyd Webber and Rahman provided the music for the stage musical Bombay Dreams (2002). Rahman has now become a global figure and is destined for even greater success. Watch this space...
