Amitabh Bachchan Amitabh Bachchan 1942 -

Amitabh Bachchan is 'The Superstar of the Millennium'. Amitabh established himself as a star with Zanjeer (1973), and then achieved super-stardom with definite 70s films like Deewaar (1975), Sholay (1975) and Don (1978). Amitabh went on to reach heights no other Bollywood star could ever hope to reach. However, by the mid-80s, the hits had begun to dry up and his career went into a decline.

Interest in the Big B has been revived over the past few years. Aks (2001) won him the Filmfare Critic's Award for Best Performance, and he's been an immense success on the small screen as host of the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Also, BBC News Online users recently voted Amitabh Bachchan as The Greatest Star of Stage or Screen, ahead of major Hollywood stars! And he is the first Bollywood star to have his waxwork at Madame Tussaud's. Amitabh is arguably the best-known Indian in the world today.
